Transmission: Life Language

My practice called Transmission is symmetrical drawing line, which has glyphs and expressions: It evolves and forms its language over time.

The process of drawing with both hands at once causes communication between the right and left hemispheres of my brain. I focus, in the moment of drawing, on a speaking language in varying abstract patterns using improvisation. The line has a quality of a vibrational signature which serves in exploring universal symbology and pattern.

In 2015, I created an easel method of this process, attaching a motor which pulled a scroll from one spool to another, creating a running drawing track on which a single line was maintained for a performance of 30 - 40 minutes, depending on the length of the substrate roll. The performances served to dialogue between musical sonic expression, and my time based artistic scrolling.

Performance by Helena Parriott featuring Michael Gam. January 4th, 2020 at Para\\el in Brooklyn, NY with the Exponential festival. Parriott uses both hands to transmit symetrical abstract pattern in as a form of meditation, while collaborating with Michael Gam who presents improvisation using a Sarod-influenced instrument. Air-Ink, used in this performance is a paint created from captured carbon emissions.
